The decision in brief

Start by auditing the Kartra features you actually use. Systeme.io, Payhip and an email-first tool are different alternatives for different jobs; Kartra’s own lower tier may also be relevant.

Update the starting assumption

Kartra’s pricing now lists Essentials at $59/month with a 5% platform transaction fee, alongside Starter at $119/month with 0% platform transaction fees. Essentials also has tighter resource limits. It is inaccurate to treat $119 as the only starting price. [source]

Use your own invoice and existing plan entitlements as the baseline. New-customer prices do not necessarily tell you what an older subscription includes or what you lose by changing it.

Do not lose the hidden dependencies

Kartra’s published feature set includes help desks and video-marketing tools, not just pages and emails. If your support tickets or marketing logic live there, replacing the funnel is only part of the move. [source]

Create a dependency inventory with four columns: the job, where it runs, what starts it, and what must happen next. For example, “refund issued → revoke course access → notify support” is more useful than a tick next to “automation.”

Model the bill honestly

An illustrative $1,000 in monthly sales on a 5% platform fee creates $50 in platform charges. Add that to the fixed subscription, then add processing and any services you still need. A tool with a lower starting subscription can cost more at a higher sales volume.

The cost calculator accepts both fixed fees and percentage charges. Its numbers are arithmetic from your inputs, not a forecast of revenue or a promise of savings.

Test a representative automation

  1. Choose an offer that includes both payment and follow-up—not the simplest decorative page.
  2. Rebuild its entry point, product access, email sequence and cancellation behavior.
  3. Run a successful payment and a failed payment test using the provider’s supported method.
  4. Check whether the correct tags and messages appear only once.
  5. Document external services and migration labor before deciding.

If a simpler tool handles your real workflow with fewer dependencies, a move can be sensible. If the exercise exposes missing capabilities, keeping Kartra or adjusting the plan may be the better outcome.

Recommendation by stage

Validating one offer: test a low-cost environment without rebuilding an entire business first. Running several connected products: put migration and support continuity ahead of the headline bill. Using only email: compare an email product rather than automatically buying another all-in-one suite.

A good alternative is the one that fits the job you are paying for—not the one with the largest affiliate commission.

Common questions

Is Systeme.io a complete Kartra replacement?

It may cover your core sales journey, but parity must be checked at the workflow and integration level. Do not assume every support or video feature transfers.

Why compare Kartra with itself?

A plan change may be less disruptive than migration. That possibility belongs in an honest alternatives guide.

Should I choose the lowest subscription?

Only after including platform fees, external services, usage and the work needed to move.
